Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays from BIKES vs CARS and the WG Film team. We hope there are many beautiful bikes waiting underneath your Christmas trees!

Stay tuned in the new year, when we look forward to announcing the World Premiere of BIKES vs CARS!

Thank you, Spacescape!

We want to send a huge thank you to the Swedish company Spacescape for their recent 10.000 SEK (1,500 USD) contribution to BIKES vs CARS. Spacescape, located in Stockholm, is an urban planning company which focuses on creating more sustainable urban development. As we work on finishing up the film, their donation comes as a huge help. Thank you so much for your support!

Make sure to check out their website to learn more about the great work they are doing.

From Spacescape: “The problem today is not the lack of knowledge about the relationship between urban planning, transport and sustainability. The problem is finding solutions to rebuild the city, which during the past 50 years built up a dependence on cars. That's why we want to support "Bikes vs. Cars", precisely because it draws attention to one of today's major societal challenges, but also constructively points out a different path, a path that unlike the highway is accessible and available to all."

Battle of the Street Space

Recently, director Fredrik Gertten traveled to Stockholm's Architecture and Design Center, where he gave a lecture on the battle for space in our streets and the motivations behind making BIKES vs CARS. You can see the full program here, in english with swedish subtitles. It's 40 minutes long, but worth a listen (bias aside...).

Fredrik's presentation was just one in a series of lectures titled "Cyklen och staden" or "The bike and the city." You can view all of them on UR Play

BIKES vs CARS travels to Berlin and LA

It's been a busy and productive last few months of filming, SWIMming and traveling for the BIKES vs CARS team. With summer upon us, we look forward to keeping the momentum going. In fact, starting this week, we'll have Benjamin Binderup and Sascha Fülscher here to continue editing the film.

In case you've missed our updates on Facebook and Twitter, here's a little peak at what else we've been up to and what more is to come:

Screen_shot_2014-06-23_at_14.56.07.pngIn May, Fredrik traveled to Los Angeles to continue shooting for the film. In between filming days, he got the chance to meet some friends and supporters of the project at a brunch and pool party hosted by our US Executive Producer, Chris Paine (Who Killed the Electric Car?, Revenge of the Electric Car). Those who attended got a special sneak peak of some work-in-progress scenes from the film. Thanks to all who joined us for the afternoon!Screen_shot_2014-06-23_at_14.55.01.png

Fredrik's next stop was Berlin, in June. The team attended a bike rally organized by ADFC Berlin, where more than 200,000 bicyclists asked for safe bike lanes. It was an inspiring event to film and be apart of. Later in the week, Lobby Control, a NGO that works for transparency and democracy in Germany and the EU, took Fredrik and about twenty BIKES vs CARS friends on a tour of important auto lobby spots throughout Berlin. The tour took them to the lobby offices of Daimler/Mercedes, BMW, VW, as well as the Bundeskanzleramt, the office of the German head of government.

We love the opportunity to meet volunteers and supporters of BIKES vs CARS and look forward to more events like these in the future. If you'd like to join us for one, make sure to sign up on our website so that you don't miss out.
